Why Michelle Duggar Does Not Follow the Quiverfull Movement
Michelle Duggar From "19 Kids and Counting" Thoughts on Birth Control
My article is a review of the "19 Kids and Counting," I do not have an agenda of any kind. I believe to each their own. They can afford their kids, and they take care of them. All the children can play classical piano, and violin; some can even play the guitar, harp, and cello. None of the Duggars have any debt, none. They own their homes, and all the cars are paid for. They don't buy anything if they can't buy it used, then they save the difference.
The Learning Channel (TLC) "19 Kids and Counting" follow the Duggar family and their 19 children. "19 Kids and Counting" is the leading show on Tuesday nights. The show is a part-reality, part-documentary show, in which we can see how the Duggars live day-to-day.
Jim Bob And Michelle Duggar, both 48, are Fundamental Baptists. Many people assume that the Duggars are devoted Quiverfull, but this is simply not true (thought one could see the confusion). Quiverfull members believe that it is a sin to have sex, and prevent contraception.
Psalm 127:5 "How blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! They will not be put to shame when they confront enemies at the city gate."
Quiverfull Member's Believe:
1. That the husband and father is the head of the home.
Duggars: Check.
2. They believe every child and pregnancy is a blessing.
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord.' (Psa. 127:3)
Duggars: Check.
3. You should homeschool your children so they don't learn sin in school.
Duggars: Check.
4. If your married, even if you can't afford it you should have more children.
Duggars; Not exactly, no.
5. Even if you have health problems, trust in The Lord, you should have more children.
Duggars: Not exactly, no.
6. Family planning form of birth control is a sin, always.
Duggars: Not exactly, no.
Michelle Duggar explained in her book that she and Jim Bob jointly decided early on in their marriage that they would allow God to determine how many children she and Jim Bob would have. Michelle Duggar discourages women to use birth control pills and IUDs. She disagrees with both of these forms of birth control since she believes it would prevent a fertilized egg from being attached to the lining of the uterus. She considers a fertilized egg (who is even seconds old) a full blown child with a soul.
Even though it was recently reported on an episode that Michelle Duggar is in menopause, she still hopes for baby #20. They still trust God with their marriage bed
Michelle Duggar is not against other types of birth control, such as family planning and condoms, if there is a valid reason for that couple should not get pregnant. Remember, the only people she believes can have sex and not commit sin are two Christian individuals, one man, and one woman. Some of the valid reasons for using contraception include health, or financial problems. I have seen all the episodes of the show, read the book, read the family's daily blog; they are vague on the matter.
Another reason Michelle and Jim Bob Duggae are not a member of the Quiverfull movement is because she restricts sexual intimacy nearly half a month. Michelle and Jim Bob skip any "biblical" contact when she is either on her period, and for seven days following it.
Additionally, the Duggar clan follow the Old Testament's rules on sex and birth. The Duggars do not have sex for 40 days following the birth of a boy. They wait for 80 days following the birth of a baby girl. Michelle has stated in her book that even though she nurses, she usually gets pregnant on the 8th or 9th month.
If Michelle wanted as many children as possible under the Quiverfull movement, she would have sex as soon as recommended from her doctor, which is usually 4-6 weeks if the birth were vaginal. If she wanted to have more kids, she would not have breastfed each child for a full year. She has overlapped pregnancy and breastfeeding from time-to-time, but she could have easily had 25-30 children.
UPDATE: Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard married on July 5, and announced on August 21, 2014 that they are pregnant. The bride says she conceived on the 10th day of the marriage. Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald and engaged, and will marry on November 1, 2014. They too will not use any birth control during their marriage, and has said they will entrust the marriage bed to God.
Leviticus Chapter 12:
12 The Lord said to Moses, 2 "Say to the Israelites: 'A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. 3 On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised (SIC). 4 Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified (SIC) from her bleeding. She must not touch anything sacred or go to the sanctuary until the days of her purification are over. 5 If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding.
6 "'When the days of her purification for a son or daughter are over, she is to bring to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a dove for a sin offering.[a] 7 He shall offer them before the Lord to make atonement for her, and then she will be ceremonially clean from her flow of blood.
"'These are the regulations for the woman who gives birth to a boy or a girl. 8 But if she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. In this way, the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.'"
